About the breed
The Southdown is the oldest of the "Down" line of sheep. This breed was developed in the Chalk Hills or “South Downs” of Sussex in southeastern England. They are the smallest of the British breeds, and have a docile nature.
The Southdown is historically one of the most important British breeds of sheep, valued for meat, wool, and improvement of other sheep breeds, including the Shropshire, Hampshire, and Oxford sheep.
