Kapok is a plant-based, hollow-core fibre. It comes from the seed pods of the kapok tree.
It is waterproof, and resists clumping, keeping its original shape even after washing. It is naturally resistant to mold and mildew.
This makes it a popular choice for stuffing soft toys when a natural and biodegradable fibre is preferred over polyester fibrefill.
Not recommended for spinning or felting.
The flowering tree is a member of the Malvaceae family. native to Central and South America and Western Africa. A smaller variety is cultivated in Southeast Asia, and the name Kapok is derived from the Malay word for the variety that grows there.
